Porsche cars are known for a lot of things—outstanding power, superb handling, and luxurious amenities, to name a few. For the 2022 model year, eco-friendliness is joining the list with the new electric Porsche Taycan, which proves that fun sportscars can also be good for the planet.

Powertrain

The Porsche Taycan comes with an electric motor and a 79-kWh lithium-ion battery. There are also powertrain options that can be equipped with two electric motors and/or a 93-kWh lithium-ion battery.

While the base model produces up to 402 horsepower, the top Turbo S and Turbo S Cross Turismo can generate as much as 750 horsepower.

Driving Range and MPGe

If you go with the standard battery, the base Porsche Taycan has a driving range of 200 miles. The bigger battery increases that to 225 miles.

For the best driving range, you’ll want the Porsche Taycan 4S, which will let you travel up to 227 miles on a full charge. The base Porsche Taycan gets 79 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) in both the city and on the highway, which is extraordinary for its class.

Charging Time

With a regular 240-volt household-style outlet or a Level 2 charging station, you can get the Porsche Taycan completely charged in about 10 hours. You’ll be able to get the battery up to 80 percent with a Level 3 charging station in about an hour and a half. But with a 270-kilowatt station, reaching a full charge only takes about 22 minutes.
